Lets Go Champ

Up and coming show

Dna and Fightden

Let's go champ

June 24th is the date when 2 ex professional boxers go at it in a charity match over 4 x 2 minute rounds. Shaun Cogan is a trainer, coach and owner of Fightden gym will be taking on personal trainer and boxing coach who also teaches class’s at Fightden Terry Carruthers.

These 2 ex pro’s have been selling this show in great fashion over the. Last few weeks on social media. They have made a series of video clips showing them training and commenting on the fight, all the clips end with them saying the same words “Let's go Champ”. Shaun and Terry are good friends and are doing fight match to raise money for charity.

Shaun’s is 49 and had a impressive professional record of 25 fights winning 18, drawing

1 with 9 of his wins coming by knockout, he has fought the likes of Malcolm Malvin, Karl Taylor and Rocky Lawler.

Shaun has also had 125 Amateur fights and has been Irish ABA champion and a Irish international, he was crown Midlands champ 6 times and was national semi finalist 3 times.

Shaun started boxing when he was 13 for Smallheath boxing club under the tutelage of Pat Benson. Shaun told me “when I picked up my national Irish cup which had Pat’s name on it 33 years before, I think that made him a proud man”. Shaun still goes round to see Pat Benson on a regular basis. The Pat Benson boxing academy is based next door to Fightden on Adderley street Digbeth.

Shaun then added “me and Terry are fighting to raise money for a lady with cancer, me and Terry are good friends and will be good friends after”.

Terry Carruthers is 30 and fought most of his professional fights at super welterweight, he had 38 bouts winning 15 and drawing 6.

Terry does 1 2 1 training and also takes classes at fightden training up and coming boxers. Terry has had bouts against the likes of Chris Eubanks Jr and Nick Blackwell.

With a full supporting line up including Matmoo and Matt Caines competing for the SPBF English title and “one to watch” Jordan “The Lion” Lynch fighting for the vacant SPBF light heavyweight title, and at the home of boxing in Birmingham The Irish centre Digbeth it is looking like a cracking show.

Dexter's Thoughts

“Let's Go Champ” Cogan v Carruthers, I'm looking forward to this show, the 2 friends are getting it on for a noble cause which I admire them for. Who will win it’s a toss up, Shaun is experienced and a veteran and has got a great pedigree as a pro and a amateur. Terry as well is experienced and has youth on his side but I honestly couldn't call it.

With a cracking supporting line up and being at the home of boxing in Birmingham the Irish centre Digbeth I can honestly say I am looking forward to going to this show.
