EastSide End of Season Report

Eastside End Of Season Report

Here is Eastside’s gym end of season report written by friend of the column Jon Pegg, here is what he wrote about his stables of Pro’s.

SUPER LONG POST ALERT

End of the season how do I actually go about summing up Eastside Gyms season????

First off new arrivals welcome to Jordan Lynch Ammir Fiaz Jarrod Docherty, Dean Dodge, Daniel Spencer, Yadi Galsemi, Domenic Specchio lads who have signed with us and will be making there debut in the new season. You have joined a stable rich with history lads make sure you live up to it.

No real order here although I will be leaving title winners till last.

Great to see the return of the Don Broadhurst shook of the rust to get back on the title trail and with Charlie Edwards fighting for a world title who knows what the future will bring.

Our Tamworth connection is going from strength to strength with head honcho Karl Williams fast building a stable of prospects.

Charlie Lee Williams got his first taste of a sky tv show and stayed undefeated and even got some sparring in with euro champ Josh Warrington.

Kelcie Ball added to his exciting reputation with brawl after brawl don’t miss him.

Louis Fielding had a great year and took an ambitious step up which didn’t pay off but I’m sure we will see Louis back to his best in the coming season.

Cumbria Aussie hybrid Josh Baillie made a winning debut before losing live on sky tv another lad we will be seeing in good action this year.

Sullivan Mason remains the only british fighter to see the final bell against red hot contender Ahmet Patterson a quiet year by Sullys standards but expect to see a push on before the end of the year.

Fantastically talented brothers Tion Gibbs and Cori Gibbs continued to make waves Tion have his first two fights this year and winning both,Cori stayed undefeated ,got on tv,and did his first six rounder so massive strides for him.

Expect Tion to further his education in the new season and Cori to be winning his first belts this season.

My partner Paul Soggy Counihan son had a very frustrating season. Antonio Counihan stayed unbeaten and looked good doing it but due to problems outside of our control did not get chance to show just how good he is. Fear not work is afoot to take over America watch this space.

Drew Brown from Northampton with Spencer McCracken in his corner had two fights and impressed in both, only 19 this kid could be a dark horse where titles are concerned.

Marcello Renda one of the veterans of our gym couldn’t build on his prizefighter success but ticked over and is just waiting for a deserved title opportunity to jump upon.

Lee Jones continued his come back and is rewarded by a title shot on the first show of the season in September. Game as they come and always entertaining love him while he’s here as he may just go travelling around the world again.

Hot prospect Ryan Kelly is another who made his tv show debut and got his 1st six rounder in this season, with an army of fans ryan has a fan friendly style and is impressing people with every fight.

Redditch Rocky Carl Dickens had a loss in a hard fought eight rounder but there was blood there was guts there was excitement so not all was bad.Carl is looking to get revenge in the new season and is training hard.

Harry Fiaz made his debut with a very impressive stoppage and with spencer Mccracken in his corner as well.Huge for a middleweight we expect this lad to make big strides this season.

Not forgetting our road warriors the brave lads who fight all over the country against everybody and anybody. Big shout out to these guys the sport would be lost with out them Kris Laight, Chris Twinny, Jenkinson Kas Hussain Brett Fidoe and Jamie Ambler

An Eastside managed lad Nick Jenman what a success story this kid is came to us as he wanted to win a belt and turn his career round.Well he only won the prestigious southern area middleweight title this year.Best of luck to an Eastside associate keep up the good work.

Jordan Cooke stayed unbeaten and got himself on a couple of sky shows (another Eastside lad on sky i hear you say!) Jordan had some great wins and really upped his education the next step is a midlands title fight in October and after that who knows where this coventry talent can go.

Dan Breeze breeze won his first title this year and stayed undefeated but more importantly took his biggest step up to date facing the dangerous and unbeaten Natty Howell. Sticking to game plan dan won a great exciting fight and nailed down another Eastside Derby result.Expect big things this season from The Hurricane.

Karly Gee the elder statesman of Eastside gym had a mixed year but a very successful one.Winning the midlands title from hot favourite Rob hunt live on a sky show with a stunning 2nd round KO has to be the high point, but then as is the Eastside way took a really tough first defence and lost to the tough Ryan fields. Karly rebounded from that loss with a good win and with the experience under his belt is looking for more big fights this year.

The Savage Sam Eggington by his own usual standards had a quieter year than usual but that still included 3 sky tv appearances a british title defence top of the bill and two kos but sadly it also included losing his british title by close decision to Bradley Skeete. Learning from this Sam rebounded with a vicious 1st round KO and looks forward to a big derby match in oct in Birmingham. The Savage at just 22 has got a lot more to show Birmingham fight fans.

Marcus Ffrench Mr excitement himself .Another good year for the pocket rocket as he took on local unbeaten and talented rival Michael Rooney in a mouth watering clash for the midlands title live on sky sports (see a pattern emerging here?)

In a fight many tipped him to lose Ffrenchy shown what he’s capable of when sticking to a strict training regime.

A 55 second win and a midlands belt has put Marcus in the driving seat for some huge fights this new season.

Craig Cunningham became our first 2 weight midlands champion and a strong contender for

the Lenny Woodhall outstanding achievement award in September.

A fantastic year for Craig stayed unbeaten got on a sky show(hmm not another one you say)

And got himself involved in what should win fight of the year when he KO’ed Ryan Aston away from home in another local derby where Eastside came out on top.Going in to the lions den Craig wowed the fans that night

If that wasn’t enough a few weeks later Craig moved down in weight and took on the dangerous Jason Welborne after ten pulsating rounds Craig took a razor tight decision to leave himself looking at big title shots in the new season.

Hope I haven’t forgot anyone? If I have message me and ill sort it.

Big thanks outside the ring to Tina Counihan for her absolutely tireless work and to the team the guys who make it happen.

Paul Soggy Counihan, Louie Counihan, Spencer Mccracken, Max Maxwell, Neil Hateley and Shaun Guerin

Promoter Tommy Owens for great shows

Again who ever I have forgot sorry.

Some big news coming up that will make Brummie boxing and Eastside boxing even stronger watch this space Matthew Macklin, Sam Kynoch next season is going to leave this one in the shade.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Jon Pegg and Paul Counihan have a great stable of pro’s at Eastside, with the likes of Marcus Ffrench, Jordan Cooke, Craig Cunningham and Sam Eddington Eastside will go from strength to strength. With new up and coming boxers like Ammir Fiaz, Dean Dodge and Jordan Lynch joining the Eastside ranks the stable just gets bigger and better. I look forward to reporting on all the Eastside boxers.

If there are any Eastside boxers who would like to tell the Birmingham Boxing column readers there story please get in contacted via the website or Facebook- Dexter Hastings.
