Eggington Retains Title Against Malignaggi

Eggington retains title against Malignaggi

O2 Arena London

4/3/2017

Eastside's Sam “The Savage” Eggington showed youth can beat experience as he stopped Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi with the perfect body shot at the O2 Arena London. From the first bell Eggington was in control using his dominate size and reach well as he controlled the first half of the fight. Malignaggi (36) a 2 time world champion tried to use his experience and speed but Eggington walked him down and took his time as he wore down the Brooklin born Newyorker.

Malignaggi did show his world class pedigree at the end of the sixth round by putting a 20 punch combination together with him catching Eggington clean with lefts and and rights. Sam seemed to be stunned and dropped his hands and gave Paulie some free shots right at the end of the round. Eggington ended the fight in the 8th just as Malignaggi seemed to be getting into the fight with the perfect body shot that put the Magic Man in a world of pain and to the canvas where he stayed as the ref stopped the fight.

Dexter's Thoughts

What a great fight, Sam showed tonight that he is a world class fighter by not beating a 2 time former world champion and a fighter who has been in with the best in the world. Eggington and his Eastside team should be very proud of themselves as they are leading the way in putting Birmingham boxing on the map. Sam is mandatory for the European title and the rumour is he could be fighting for it on the Matchroom show in Birmingham on May 13th against champion Ceferino Rodriguez. This has got to be the next step for Eggington and his team and if he wins that, Birmingham could have yet another world champion by the end of next year. The Birmingham boxing column will be looking forward to what Eggington and his Eastside team go for next.
