BcB promotions Denny v Cartwright English Middleweight title 22/9/18

Black Country Promotions held Tyler Denny's title challenge for the vacant English Middleweight Title at the Walsall town hall Walsall. The fight was scheduled to be over 10, 3 minute rounds and the undercard had some of the best Black Country Boxing Promotions boxers on display with a few new comers as well. Unfortunately I could no be at the show due to work commitments but managed to watch some of it on the live stream. I have asked one of BcB's promotors Dan Mole to give his verdict on the nights events. Dan started by saying “We win some, we lose some, we win as one, we lose as one but whatever we do; we do it together”. “Well done to all the lads and lasses this weekend”.

“Dani Hodges boxed really well and showed a different, more composed style tonight”. “Troi Coleman excelled in his debut. Poochi Van Poetsch is an experienced road warrior but Troi really put it on him”.

“James Beech Jnr boxed well and kept the unbeaten run going”.

“Conah Walker was really impressive on his debut and got the TKO”. “Ryan Davies showed real heart to get straight back in there after a loss and got back to winning ways”.

“Levi Ferguson never wasted a shot and looked in great condition against a former top amateur”.

Denny v Cartwright

“Reece Cartwright was an awkward SOB, gangly and unorthodox but boxed well behind his jab. The fight was stopped by the doctor and most in the capacity crowd thought it was for his eye which was swollen but his lip was really damaged. And he wanted to carry on. What a warrior”.

Finally, congratulations to Adam Harper who brought home the English Title on Friday to fulfill a dream he shared with me 4 years ago. What a journey.

Tyler Denny took to Social Media after the fight to thank his supporters and give his take on the fight, the Midlands area champ wrote "You don’t play boxing, Gutted about not getting the result I wanted last night but the best man won, congratulations to Reece Cartwright. Thank you to everyone for their support the atmosphere was great by both sets of fans . I’ll come back better and stronger.

Dexter's Thoughts

I am gutted for Tyler Denny, I was there when he won his Midlands title as the away fighter at Walsall town hall last year and was really impressed with him. He fought like a true warrior but Cartwright just seemed to brake him down over the rounds and with the cut to his lip and the swelling to his eye the fight was stopped. Congratulations to Cartwright for fighting away from home and getting the win, I am sure Denny will be back in the ring soon and will be back challenging for titles again.

Conah Walker looked very impressive, this is the first time I have seen him boxes and what a great stoppage he got. I look forward to seeing him fight against soon.

Trio Coleman looked good on his debut against a tough opponent in Van Poetsch, he is definitely one to keep your eye on.

Levi Ferguson and Ryan Davis where in excellent form and the more I watch these two exciting fighters boxes the more I want to see if them.

James Beech Jr looked impressive in a nice 4 rounder where he won every round. He did get cut again which is a slight worry but the young man did not stop him from claiming victory. There is talk of him challenging for the super Bantamweight Midlands area title currently held by the talented Brad Foster. All I can say what a fight that would be, Foster looked really impressive when he won the belt at Walsall F.C ground last year against Gower, but I have a feeling that one of the Birmingham Boxing Column’s Boxers to watch has got the goods chance of claiming the belt for himself. This is definitely a fight I would love to see happen.

Finally Dani Hodges “The Pocket Rocket” put on a great display winning her fight with ease and like Lauren Johnson and Rachel Ball is showing the way for women to get into professional boxing in the Midlands.
