Beech takes on Fielding for Midlands title
Twenty one year old James Beech Jr will be taking on Louis Fielding for the vacant Super Featherweight Midlands area at the Walsall town hall on the 8th December. Unbeaten Beech Jr who has won all of his eight fights is moving up 2 weights from super Bantamweight to Super Featherweight to take on the very experienced Louis Fielding. Fielding will be having his second attempt at the Midlands title after being stopped by Paul Holt 2 years ago. Fielding also lost an eliminator to the talented fighter Indi Sangha for the super Featherweight title at the start of this year. Fielding who has won 8 out of his 13 fights has got back to winning after beating Ricky Starkey in September of this year.
I contacted Beech to asked him a few questions about this up and coming fight. When asked how did he feel when told the news the Bbcolumn boxer to watch told me “I was buzzing, it has gave me that big buzz back as I started to kind of go through the motion so a step up was needed”. I then asked the young fighter did he think Fielding had an advantage after being in a Midlands title fight before? He informed me “He’s got an advantage in terms of he knows how to pace himself but I am the better boxer and I have done 8 rounds and I done them with ease I could have gone another 8”. My final question for the James was are you going to be changing anything in you training for this camp? Beech said “I’ll be doing a lot more strength work and stepping up the rounds sparring, pads and bags”.
Beech had this to say to his supporters, the young fighter told me “My supporters mean a lot to me, this fight I think the atmosphere will be better than my first fight the response I’ve had to it it’s going to be crazy”.
I also contacted Louis Fielding and asked him how he felt when he was told about the fight? The devout Villa fan told me "Yeah I was really happy when I was told about the fight, its a decent bout and a decent title to box for".
I also asked whether him fighting for the title before will help him? He told me "Its is valuable experience to take with me. I know Beech is a very good technical lad and has good movement, he is young and ambitious".
I then asked him had he changed his training for the fight?Fielding informed me "I will be upping my sparring for this one and taking some more time to work on drills and correct little errors each session I can".
Fielding finished by saying "I wouldn't be here without all the fans and hope they can support me as they have throughout, it means the world to me and the other lads chasing their dreams of boxing".
Dexter’s Thoughts
This is a great opportunity for Beech Jr to claim the Midlands Area Featherweight title, Fielding will be a very tough opponent as he has been there before and has experience about fighting in title fights. Beech is moving up two weights which may help or hinder him, we will have to wait and see. I have followed Beech's career from the start and was at his first fight at the Tudor grand Leisure Centre Solihull where he had a massive support cheering him on. I’m sure the Beech fans will be rocking the Walsall town hall on the 8th December.
Fielding has had some ups and downs in his career and if he can win the Midlands title against such a hot prospect it will propel him up the ranks. The Birmingham Boxing Column will be there to see if Beech can be victorious in his first real title fight or will Fielding will claim the title the second time of asking.
