Welborn Get World Title Shot

Welborn Gets World Title Shot

It was confirmed yesterday that Black Country Boxing's British Middleweight Champion Jason Welborn will be fighting for the IBF, WBA and the IBO Super welterweight world titles. Welborn will be facing holder and unbeaten fighter Jarrett Hurd, Hurd has won all 22 of his fights stopping 15 of his opponents in the process. Hurd has already defended his IBF title twice after winning the vacant title against Tony Harrison who had only lost twice in 29 fights. Hurd then went on to claim the IBO and the WBA straps in his last fight in April against Erislandy Lara on a split decision.

Welborn who will be looking at ending a great year after he first beat Tommy Langford for the British Middleweight title which was one of the fights of the year and then repeating the feat live on Sky Sports beating Langford again in September. Welborn who has a record of 26 wins in 30 fights will be dropping back down to super welterweight for this world title challenge and will be looking to achieve yet another big upset. The fight will be on the undercard of the Wilder Fury fight at the Staples centre in America on the 1st December.

Dexter’s Thoughts

What a year Welborn has had so far with two career changing fights against Tommy Langford. Welborn shocked a lot of people including myself when he beat Langford the first time round in an epic fight that is almost definitely the BBColumn’s “Fight of The Year” for 2018. He then went on and made a statement knocking Langford down twice in the second fight to be victorious in another cracking bout of boxing which was seen by millions on the undercard of the Amir Khan fight in September. Welborn has accepted the challenge to fight for not one but three world titles, Hurd is unbeaten and is more than likely thinking that he will have an easy night against the Black Country boxer. But I think Tommy Langford thought the same thing in the first fight, this is a very big task for Welborn to achieve but with the year he has had so far who knows, we could soon have a multiple world champion coming out of the Midlands. What ever happens I’m sure Jason Welborn will put on a great performance and take home a nice purse which will be well earned over his years as a pro fighter. The Bbcolumn wishes Jason all the luck in the world and hope to be seeing him end his great year as world champion.
