Burke The Upsetter?

Burke The Upsetter?

Joshua Burke is ready to upset Matt Sen and his home crowd this weekend as he goes in search of title glory.

The 32 year-old from Wolverhampton takes on Sen for the British Challenge Cruiserweight Title at The Venue, Dudley, on Saturday in what will be his first contest in a year.

“Training camp has gone well,” Burke told bcb-promotions.com. “I’ve been working on technique and game plan.

“It is a big ask to come back after over year out with inactivity but I know I'm capable of the eight round distance. I need to put on a show as I’ve been very disappointed in my last two performances, so I'm aiming to return with a bang and show people what Joshua Burke is really about.”

Burke was unsuccessful in his last outing, which was also for the British Challenge belt. He was stopped by Coventry’s Dill Singh but insists he has learnt from defeat and will be victorious on Saturday.

“I have learnt a lot from the Dilly Singh fight which I don't need to go into because preparation wasn't right for several reasons ."Failing to prepare is preparing to fail" and I learnt some harsh lessons which were obvious, so I’m focused on displaying the best Joshua Burke and showing what I'm made of in this fight.

“I am expecting a good title fight. I know it is going to be a hostile crowd and I know he's going to be on his ‘A Game’ so I can't bring anything less myself.

“When I win this fight I'll speak to Errol (Johnson – Head of Boxing at BCB) about my next step because I haven't got time on my side, so I'm happy to bypass Midlands Area level and look at English and British Titles because I know the best Joshua Burke can give any cruiserweight in the world problems.”

Tickets, priced at £35 or £50 ringside with waitress service, are still available by calling 07976 283 157. Alternatively, contact any of the boxers in the home corner on Facebook.

Wolverhampton welterweight, Kirstie Bavington, Dudley trio Danny Ball, Connor Lee Jones and Josh Miller, and Brummie duo Aaron Lovell and Daryl Pearce feature elsewhere on the under-card.
