Hatton tips Pitters for Golden Robe

Hatton tips Pitters for Golden Robe

Manchester’s multiple former welterweight and super welterweight world champion Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton has tipped Birmingham’s Shakan Piiptters to win the Golden Robe on the Ultimate Boxxer 2 show at the 02 arena London on the 2nd November. The Hitman tipped Pitters after the 2 time world champion Paulie Malignaggi made the draw for the quarter finals of the tournament. Pitters was drawn against Sam Smith who has won 5 out of his 6 fights. Hatton said he thought Pitters 6 foot 6 height would give him a great advantage over the 3 times 3 minute round fights if he got his tactics right. If Pitters is victorious against Smith he will be facing either John McCallum or Jordan Joseph in the semi finals.

I caught up with Shakan and asked him how he felt when he heard the legend Ricky Hatton has tipped him to win the Golden Robe? The unbeaten fighter told me “It felt great hearing that as Ricky Hatton was someone I’ve watched compete in massive fights such as when he fought Mayweather but that’s all good to hear for sure but ultimately I got to do the job on the day, which I will!”

I then ask Shakan how he felt about the draw and getting Sam Smith in the first round? The six foot six giant told me “it really didn’t matter who I was drawn against myself and Paul Counihan have prepared for all fighting styles, we’ve had a fantastic camp so really doesn’t matter”.

My final question to Pitters was do any of the fighters worry you in this tournament? Shakan said straight away “ No, non of them worry me at all but I’m sure I worry a lot of them”.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Ricky Hatton hit the nail on the head with his tip for the winner of the ultimate boxer’s golden robe. Shakan will be a very big light heavyweight as he comes down from Cruiser-weight and standing at 6 foot 6 he could win these 3 time 3 round fights just with his jab. Hatton was also right that he had to get his tactics right and with his coach Paul “Soggy” Counihan planning his strategy I am sure Eastside will be bring back another Golden robe to the gym. In my opinion like Ricky said if Shakan gets his tactics right I think one of the Birmingham Boxing Column’s “Boxers to Watch” of this year will be victorious.
