Ameen Khalid is ramping up the rounds again as he looks to circle back towards title contention in the lightweight ranks.
Six scheduled rounds await at the Eastside Rooms, on Woodcock Street in Birmingham, where BCB Promotions are holding another fight night, on Saturday September 2.
It comes less than five weeks before he last engaged in competitive combat, moving to 6-0 through a fifth points success, along with a TKO registered, earlier on in his pro career.
His last victory came over Jordan Ellison, who Khalid made light work of to pick up a four-round points landslide result, through a 40-36 margin.
It was in stark contrast to his previous outing, a six-rounder against Jahfieus Faure, where he only prevailed by a point, after climbing off the floor in the second, due to a 58-57 result.
During the aftermath, the 26-year-old switched coaches from Amin Khan to the training team of Errol Johnson and Paul Mann, coming under BCB’s full stewardship.
Khalid also has four-round points victories over Constantin Radoi, Simas Volosinas and Liam Richards on his pro ledger, plus a fourth round stoppage, at the expense of Dean Jones.
A match was made to go for the Midlands lightweight title, but co-challenger Joe Underwood Hughes pulled out. Scott Melvin and Mykey Lee Broughton will now contest the crown.
Khalid sampled glory, at amateur level, with a trio of honours in national competition, over an unpaid career that saw 25 wins from 35 bouts, for Worcester Boxing Club in his hometown.
He said: “I’m always trying to stay busy, so it’s good to get straight back out. I haven’t had any time away, from training, so I’m fit and raring to go again.
“The day after my last fight, I went on a three-and-a-half mile run and, during the next week, I was back in the gym. I was sparring again, by the following Sunday.
“I’m moving back up to six rounds, for this one, and I want to put on another great performance. I was happy, with how I did, last time.
“I stayed switched on, kept behind the jab and did my work from there. I was beating him to the punch, testing him with my shots and then slipping back into position.
“It was the second best that I’ve boxed, as a pro, after Dean Jones, because I got the stoppage in that one. Jordan Eliison is not an easy opponent, he’s caused some upsets.
“My career is going brilliant again and I’ve got a great team, at BCB, behind me. After this one, I think that I’ll be pushing towards titles.
“It’s important to keep the ball rolling. The right time will come and, when it does, I’ll 100 per cent shine and be ready to take what’s mine.”
Tickets for the Eastside Rooms bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
