Just like to say Happy New year to all our Bbcolumn followers.
February is set to be a jam packed month of boxing shows with professional promoters boxing hitting 2020 running in Birmingham and the Black Country. Kicking off the month we have Tommy Owens Promotions kicking off the new year with ‘Ring Wars 2’ at the Holte suite Villa park on the 8th of February. Confirmed on the show you have 3 of the Birmingham boxing Columns ‘Boxers to Watch’ with 6 - 0 River Wilson-Bent, Tommy Collins and Lewis Coley who will all showing there ring craft on the night. You also have a former column ‘Boxer to Watch' Shaun Cooper looking to get back into title contention with another win. Also on the show you have the very talented Ashlee Eales, Umar Anjun and the unbeaten Harry Fiaz, this will be a great start to a big year of boxing in Birmingham and the Black Country.
Then on Valentine’s Day we see Black Country Boxing hold there first show of the year. On the 14th of February BcB Promotions will hold the ‘St Valentine’s day Massacre’ show at the Stadium suite Bank’s Stadium Bescot. Again we have on the show one of the Birmingham boxing Columns ‘Boxers to Watch’ the very talented Liam Davis, Davis’s record is currently 6-0 and he will be looking to extends his unbeaten record. You also have a Column favourite fighting, as the former Lightweight Midlands area champ and a Lightweight English challenger Kane Baker takes to the squared circle for the seconded time since his points defeat to Myron Mills for the English title. There will also be Heavyweight Matt Gordon looking to get back to winning ways in his 5th contest. There are also 2 fights already confirmed with Kearon Thomas taking on Ryan Whitehead and Clayton Bricknell taking on Darryl Pearce, this will be another explosive show for boxing fans to go to.
If these two shows were not enough you have yet another cracker down Villa park Holte suite as Tommy Owens Promotions holds ‘Havoc at the Holte' on the 22nd of February. The main event on this show will see David Seymour look to defend his Midlands area Flyweight title in a rematch against Matt Windle. There first encounter was a cracker and it came down to what type of boxing you liked, Seymour was given the decision but a lot of people thought Windle had done enough. I have no doubt this will be a cracking 10 rounder and Windle will be looking to make it third time lucky as he has his third crack at the title.
If the main event didn’t excite you enough to attend this show the undercard is stacked with talent. So far confirmed to fight in the home corner you have Dilly Singh, Max Mudway and Danny Quartermaine, you also have Holte favourite Sean Daly who always brings a massive following and is always in exciting fights. You also have two female contests with Kirstie Bavington looking to continue her impressive form with another win, finishing off the line up you have Northern Ireland’s only female boxer Cathy McAleer, the Belfast fighter has won all three of her contests and under the management of Kellie Maloney she will be looking to be the Northern Irish version of Katie Taylor.
Dexter's Thoughts
What a great start to 2020 three cracking shows for Birmingham and the Black Country, Top Boxing and BcB Promotions have set the bar high for this year. I have to say there is some serious talent on every show and the Column will be at all three shows to give you a full report on the fighters. The Midlands area title fight between Seymour and Windle has to be the stand out contest. Seymour was given the verdict by ref Kevin Parker last time, myself I had it even, so either fighter could have had there hand raised at the end in my opinion. I am sure this will be another cracking fight and I look forward to going to all three shows.
Also if you like you boxing a bit rawer I will be refereeing an unlicensed show on the 28th of February at the Supreme banqueting and Conference centre West Bromwich. It will be the well established Fight Leagues 27th show and is always a great night of boxing. Also issue 4 of bbcolumn magazine will be distributed at all of these shows so make sure you get your free copy. Also we will be doing a PDF version of the magazine that will be sent to you via email if you subscribe.
The Birmingham boxing Column looks forward to a great start to 2020.
