Cheema Back to Winning Ways

Coventry’s Dylan Cheema got back to winning ways with a very impressive victory at the Eastside Rooms Birmingham (30.97.23). Cheema (27) was headlining the Black Country Boxing Promotions show called ‘Crunch Time at Lunch Time’ and was contesting in a six-round contest. Cheema was coming off his only defeat when he lost a close points deduction on the Boxxer Promotions show in Manchester losing to Jordan Ellison over four rounds. Cheema was taking on Gurjant Singh from India in a welterweight contest who was having his thirteen contests. Cheema was having his ninth contest of his professional career and was looking to make a statement inform of his massive following. Cheema weighed in nine stone twelve with Singh coming in nine stone five with Chris Dean reffing.

Steady start by Cheema who worked his way into the first round dictating the pace and winning the round with ease. Cheema stayed in control in the second round with Singh having a go-back but getting it back tenfold. Cheema picked some great shots in the third with some great eye-catching shots and put some hurtful combinations together to dominant the round.

Cheema continued to put great combinations together in the fourth to the delight of his supporters who had come out in mass. Singh was now in full survival mode and was just looking to see the final bell. Cheema started to have fun as he played to the crowd but was still unloading hurtful shots on Singh who at one stage was hit with five uncontested uppercuts. Cheema unleashed a barrage of combinations on Singh in the final round who now was just covering up, Singh did try to taught Cheema who replied with controlled aggression and banged in combination after combination until the final bell. How Singh stayed on his feet is a credit to the man.

Ref Chris Dean scored the contest 60 to 54 Cheema I had it the same.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Fantastic performance by Cheema who got back to winning ways in front of his massive following. He had Singh on the back foot from the first bell and showed his class in every round with some eye-catching shots and combinations. It was a convincing victory and a great win and I’m sure he will be back fighting on the big shows very soon. He is now nine fights in and my opinion should now have his eye on a Midlands area or even an English title fight. I look forward to seeing him box again very soon.
