Clean Sweep for the Big Ego

DnA gyms Sam Pikire notched up his third win out of four contests winning every round in his four-round contest. The thirty-year-old from Longbridge was taking on Kiernan McAfee in a Super Featherweight contest on the Tommy Owens Promotions show at Planet Ice Solihull (10.6.23). Pikire weighed in nine stone 2 with McAfee and came in nine stone seven with Chris Dean reffing.

Pikire started the round well banging in some nice combinations, McAfee came back with some shots of his own but it was Pikire’s round. Pikire moved well in the second round and got some eye-catching shots off,

Pikire controlled the third round and put together some nice combinations, McAfee was still having a go-back which kept the fight completive. Both fighters left it all in the ring emptying their tanks with Pikire just edging it with eye-catching shots.

Ref Chris Dean scored it 40 to 36 Pikire’s I had it the same.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Great performance by Pikire on this big show, he was up against a very game opponent who fancied his chances but was put in his place by the ‘Big Ego’. Pikire showed great moments and shot-picking with some eye-catching shots but the most impressive thing about his performance was how he dealt with McAfee’s attacks. When under fire he stayed calm and fought back and got out of trouble. He seems to have put that early defeat behind him and is now looking to get a few more wins under his belt and then challenge for titles. I look forward to seeing Pikire in the square circle very soon.
