Denny Claims EBU European Middleweight Title

Rowley Regis’s Tyler Denny has sensationally claimed the EBU European Middleweight title in a crack contest on the Boxxer Promotions show at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall (18.11.23). Southpaw Denny was part of the main event at the show called ‘Wolves at the Door’ when he took on current champ forty-four-year-old Italian Matteo Singnani. Singnani has won thirty-two of his forty-one fights with three draws and has held the EBU Middleweight European title since October 2019 losing it and winning it back in the space of five months in 2022. Denny (32) has won seventeen of his twenty-two fights drawing three coming into this fight and has won the EBU External Middleweight title against Macauley McCowan in May of this year. Denny weighed in for this contest eleven stone five with Singnani coming in the same with Philipps Wouters reffing.

Denny used his southpaw jab well to keep it at range landing some nice backhands to the body winning the first round. Singnani started to let his hands go in the second and pressed Denny, Denny used his jab well and kept it simple winning the round with nice one-twos and great movement. Denny stuck to the plan and continued to use his jab, one, two, and great movement as Singnani continued to press forward. Singnani continued to press in the fourth landing the odd shot but was missing with a lot of them, Denny’s plan was working to a tee as he kept it simple hitting and moving well winning the round.

Singnani managed to drag Denny into a toe-to-toe scrap in the fifth where the toy both let shots go, Singnani then landed a cracking right hook which rocked Denny who looked to hold. Singnani looked to land more big shots but Denny’s head movement was great and he weathered the storm and saw the round out. Denny went back to his boxing in the sixth and was boxing well, there was an accidental clash of heads with Singnani sustaining a nasty cut above his right eye, the ref had the doctor look at it and Singnani Wass allowed to continue. The seventh was a scrappy round with Denny working well on the inside and using his jab at range to win the round. At the start of the eighth round Singnani corner seemed to take their time getting out of the ring with the ref stopping the contest eight seconds into the round.

Tyler Denny wins EBU European Middleweight title.

Dexter’s Thoughts

What a great performance from Tyler Denny as he claims the EBU European Middleweight title, a boxer who has come through the ranks from fighting out of the away corner to fighting in his beloved Black Country in front of 3,500 fans. Denny and his team had a plan and he stuck to it with only the fifth round being a sticky one but even then Denny used his head and showed great movement to stay out of trouble. I remember the first time I saw Denny fight, it was at Walsall town hall in September of 2017 when he took on and beat the then-unbeaten Tom Stokes for the Middleweight Midlands area title on points. Since then he has fought for the English title three times beating River Wilson-Bent to claim it in July of 2022 then winning the EBU External Middleweight title and now the EBU European Middleweight title. Denny seems to be like a fine wine and just get better with age, as a European title holder he will move up the ranks and would now set him up to contest for the big titles. Denny’s future is looking great and it honestly couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke. I congratulate him on this great victory and look forward to seeing him fight for bigger titles very soon. Denny will now be entered into the Bbcolumn ‘Hall of Fame’ for winning the European title, once again congratulations to Tyler Denny.
