Ferguson Gets Second Crack At Midlands area title

Stokes Female Southpaw Beccy Ferguson will get her second attempt at claiming a Midlands area title on December 30th at the Eastside Rooms Birmingham. The thirty-three-year-old will be taking on the very talented hot prospect Sian O’Toole who will only be having her third professional contest. Ferguson fought for the Midlands Super Featherweight title in November of last year losing to Vicky Wilkinson on points and will be dropping down a weight to contest for the Featherweight version.

Ferguson who has now notched up three wins in her last three fights, took time out of her schedule to answer a few questions from the Column.

My first question to Beccy was, how did you feel when you were given the new you were getting another title? Ferguson informed me “I felt great when I got the call as I wasn’t expecting it, as I was preparing for my super featherweight Midlands title fight at the start of the new year. The thing is with me I’m in the gym constantly training day in and day out. So, I’m always ready for that phone call and I’m not one to turn down a fight or an opportunity”.

I then as asked the tough road warrior who has won five out of fourteen contests if she will be training any differently for this title fight? She told me “As I just said, I tick over in the gym always, so my training will just increase now so that I’m physically and mentally prepared for this fight”.

My final question to Ferguson was to ask her how she saw the fight going? Beccy said “To be honest, I’m looking forward to it, I love the longer fights and for it to be the opportunity to walk away with the title I’m buzzing, it’s not my first championship fight so I’m no stranger to the rounds”.

Beccy finished by saying “I believe it will be a cracking fight, I know she has a lot of Amateur experience, where as I haven’t, however I have had 76 rounds of experience in the pros with top girls. I never like to predict the result, but I will say that I will be going in there and giving all I have to walk away victorious on the night. I have grown with each fight and improved throughout my career so far, I expect 20th of December to be the same. The best version of me will step in them ropes, and the best woman on the night will step out the winner. I just love to fight and I’m thankful for being able to live my dream of boxing”.

Dexter’s Thoughts

I can see this fight being an absolute cracking contest with two different fighting styles on show. Ferguson has a no nonsense come forward style and she has the experience to implement it. But then you look at O’Toole with a great amateur background and a style made for the professional ranks and you can see pluses for both fighters. This will be Ferguson’s second attempt at a Midlands title and like she said she is going to give it her all. I’m looking forward to a great contest between two talented boxers.
