Gilly beats Dragos

Thirty-six-year-old journeyman Shane Gill caused a massive upset live on Sky sports on the undercard of the Eubank, William’s fight beating Dragos look-alike Steve Robinson on points. Gill from Tipton who had a few amateur fights when he was sixteen and then fought on the unlicensed scene was having his second professional contest after losing his first. He was taking on Hot heavyweight prospect Steve Robinson in a six-round contest and was basically ‘the lamb to the slaughter’ for the 31-year-old 6-foot 7 Newcastle fighter who was unbeaten in 4 fights. The unfortunate thing for Robinson and his team was that no one told ‘Gilly’.

Gill dominated the fight from the first bell rocking Robinson’s head back with his jab and banging in big hooks to the Dragos look-alikes head. Robinson took the shots well and did come back heavy shots of his own but Gill kept moving forward and putting pressure on Robinson. Robinson looked very stiff and was very upright and even with his long jab was getting beaten to the punch all the time and looked very sluggish. A the end of the six rounds I had Gill winning all six rounds but the ref scored it 58 to 56 to Gill. This was a cracking victory for Gill and shows looks can be deserving as Robinson looks like he is chiselled out of stone and Gill looks like he has just come out of the pub. Gill is fighting next on the 13th February at the H-Suite Edgbaston against debutant Luke Batstone and I’m sure he will be looking for another win. Massive congratulations to Shane Gill I do love a good upset especially when it’s an ex unlicensed fighter doing it.
