Mitchell Wins Pro Debut

DnA's Leon Mitchell made his professional debut on the Tommy Owens Promotions show at the H-Suite Edgbaston (3.12.23). The show was called 'December to Remember’ and consisted of five contests. Mitchell (29) who is a cruiserweight stepped up to heavyweight to take on Joe Nakavulevu from Scotland in four-three-minute round contests. Mitchell weighed in fourteen stone three with Nakavulevu coming in sixteen stone two with Pete McCormick reffing.

Mitchell set the pace in the first round pushing forward against a much bigger opponent with some nice jabs and some beat combinations. Mitchell continued his good work in the second landing some nice combinations and moving well with Nakavulevu hardly landing a shot. Mitchell was in full control in the third picking his shots well working Nakavulevu body. Nakavulevu started to let his hands go in the final round and landed some good heavy shots which Mitchell took well, Mitchell continued to press and used some good combinations but it was Nakavulevu round.

Judge Chris Dean scored the contest 39 to 37 Mitchell I had it the same.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Great debut by Mitchell and I’m sure all of his regiment as he services our country in the army and his team at DnA gym are very proud of him. He took on a fighter who had over two stone on him and who put it on him in the final round. Mitchell boxed well but had to be respectful of the size of Nakavulevu who did especially in the final round look dangerous. It was a very good performance by Mitchell and I look forward to seeing him in the ring again hopefully next time against a cruiserweight so he can showcase his talents.
