Savage Finish By Eggington on Boxxer Show

‘The Savage’ Sam Eggington put on a clinical display of boxing with a ‘Savage’ ending on the undercard of the Okolie vrs  Billam Smith contest live on Sky Sports (27.05.23). The show which was put on by Boxxer promotions was held at Bournemouth football clubs Vitality Stadum with Okolie defending his WBO cruiserweight world title.

Eggington record stood at thirty two wins out of fourty contests before this ten round fight for the WBA international title. His opponent for this contest was the unbeaten Joe Pigford from Southampton who had amassed twenty victorys with nineteen of them coming by way of stoppage. Both fighters weighed in ten stone thirteen with Bob Williams reffing this ten rounder.

Eggington controlled the contest with a stinging jab and straight one, twos  with his back hand landing at will as he dominated every round. Pickford was put out of his misary at the end of the fifth round when Eggington first caught him with a cracking right hand which staggered him back then followed up with big left and didn’t stop hitting Pickford who looked out on his feet until the ref jumped in to end it.

Dexter’s Thoughts

First thing, big congratulations to Sam Eggington who showed with this performance that he is still one of the top boxers in the super welterweight division. Pickford came into this fight confident thinking Eggerton would just be coming forward throwing hooks to head and body but ‘The Savage’ showed he is so much more than a scrapper. Eggerton boxed well using a intelligent jab and some nice back heavy hands to dominate the fight and as for the finish the only thing you can say it was ‘Savage’. This WBA international title is just an addition to his collection of titles he has acquired over eleven years of being a pro boxer. Eggerton may have been a pro for eleven years but is only twenty nine and potentially in his prime. With this win he must be back in contention for a crack at maybe the IBO or WBA world super welterweight titles or any of the other big belts. He made a statement in Bournemouth and fingers crossed he gets his chance to become a two time world champ.
