Seven Heaven For ‘Pinky’

Hereford’s Alex ‘Pinky’ Florence took his record to seven without defeat at the H-Suite Edgbaston (16.02.24). The show was called Collision Course with the main event being a ten-round Welterweight Midlands area contest between James Scarrots and Jamie Stuart. The twenty-seven-year-old had not fought since July 2019 was taking on the very youth and capable journeyman Stu Greener in a four-round Welterweight contest.  Florence weighed in ten stone one with Greener coming in ten stone two with Chris Dean refereeing the contest.

Florence let his hands go from the first bell letting some big combinations off to Greeners head and body. Greener tried to have a go back but was just getting countered in a very classy first-round. Florence picked his shots well in the second as he floated around the ring landing great combinations, Greener dug in and did have some joy but Florence continued to land the big eye-catching shots.

Florence continued to move well as Greener stepped up the pace in the third and really started to press, both fighters landed good shots in this round with Florence just edging it. Greener started the final round fast and asked some questions of Florence who continued to move well but had to dig deep as Greener landed good shots. The tide had changed in this round as Greener poured on the pressure landing great shots and giving the unbeaten fighter a tough test.

Referee Chris Dean scored the contest 39 to 37 Florence I had it the same.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Great to see Florence back in the ring after a very long layoff and his opponent gave him a test in this four-round contest. Florence started well and showcased his skills and moment in the first two rounds but Greener grew into the contest and asked Florence some serious questions in the third and fourth rounds. Florence answered them in the third and had to dig deep in the fourth but showed a desire to succeed. This was a very entertaining contest and would be a great learning curve for the talented fighter and I look forward to seeing him in the ring again soon.
