Spider Sustained Bad Cut In His Fifth Victory

Birmingham’s hot prospect ‘Spider’ Ibraheem Sulaimaan sustained a very nasty cut in his classy victory on the Matchroom promotions show which was being aired live on DAZN (29,10,24). The twenty-four-year-old, managed by British rapper Jaykay, took on Nicaraguan-born Kevin Trana (29) in a six-round contest in the lightweight division.  The contest had to be stopped in the fourth round after a nasty clash of heads with Sulaimaan sustaining a very bad looking cut over his right eye with it being taken to the score cards with Sulaimaan winning every round on Mark Lyson’s card. Sulaimaan weighed in nine stone five with Trana coming in nine stone nine in these six-round lightweight contests.

Spider towered over his opponent in the first round as he picked his shots well with fast jabs and heavy backhands to the head and body. Trana could only cover up as Spider switched from orthodox to southpaw controlling the whole round. Spider continued to control the second round with a nice sharp jab and was working Trana’s body well, Spider took his time and landed with nearly every shot he threw dominating the round.

Spider picked up the pace in the third landing shots with both hands from all different angles, Spider had Trana down with a cracking combination with Trana taking an eight count and was allowed to continue. Trana covered up for the rest of the round covering up well and serviced the round as Spider looked for the stoppage. Spider continued to take his time in the fourth landing nice shots going head and body well. Both fighters came together with Spider landing a low blow on Trana, Trana took some time to recover and as the contest was called back on the ref then saw that Spider had sustained a cut above his right eye. Ref Mark Lyson called the doctor over who called the fight off almost straight away. The contest then went to the refs score card who had it 40 to 36 Sulaimaan.

Sulaimaan wins 40-36, I had it 40-35 Sulaimaan.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Another great performance by Sulaimaan who showcased his skills again on a worldwide stage, it was a real shame it ended how it did and I think that the cut will keep Spider out until next year. The sad thing is that Sulaimaan was set to fight on the Birmingham Matchroom Show in December on the undercard of Yafai, Edwards contests. This will be a slight setback for Sulaimaan  but there is no doubt in my mind that 2025 is going to be a big year for Sulaimaan and I can see Spider winning his first title next year and continue to progress and he has all the potential to contest for world title in the future.
