The ‘0-Taker’ Ben Fields has informed the Birmingham Boxing Column that he won’t be doing any interviews as he heads into his biggest challenge so far in his boxing career. He informed the Column he doesn’t want any hype, it's strictly business, he has a job to do and he is going to get it done. Fields will be taking on the Manchester-born unbeaten fighter Jack Rafferty at the Olympia, Liverpool on the sixteenth of September for the

Jack Rafferty

Commonwealth super lightweight silver title. This fight has an added twist to as it is also an Eliminator for the British Super Lightweight title. Rafferty (27) has a very impressive record on paper of Twenty wins with no defeats and he has managed to stop eleven of them. Rafferty has not fought for any titles yet and has had three eight-rounders and twelve six-rounders’ but is yet to fight over the scheduled ten rounds. Fields (33) from Birmingham record does not depict how good he is, he started his journey mostly on the road beating seven unbeaten fights with the Column nicknaming him ‘The 0-Taker’. Fields' biggest victory so far was when he went on the road again and beat the much-fancied Alex Fearon winning the Midlands area Super lightweight title. Fields has also contested for the welterweight version of the Midlands area title twice and has fought over ten rounds five times over eight, twice, and over six, seven times. The 0-Takers record stands at twelve wins four draws out of Twenty-nine contests.

Tickets for the contest are available from Ben and his team and cost £55, £80, and ringside £110.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Dexter Hastings

It was great to hear that ‘The 0-Taker’ and his team have secured a big fight for him, This is, without doubt, his biggest fight so far and on paper should be one of his most challenging. His opponent is unbeaten in twenty contests but when you look at his record a lot of these victories are against journeymen as Fields has only really fought hot prospects and established fighters. Rafferty’s team may be thinking that this will be an easy night's work but if you know Ben and his story you would know this is not the case. I’m not saying that this is not a big ask for Fields but I have a feeling that the ’0-Taker’ will rise again and add another ‘0’ to his record and also win the Commonwealth title and a crack at the British. The main thing is that when Cogans Corner Ben Fields wins this title he will be inducted into the Bbcolumn Hall of Fame which of course is the most significant honour of all.
