Eastside Gyms Sam ‘The Savage' Eggington will be headlining the Hennessy Sports show Live on Channel 5 on Friday 11th December. Eggington (27) will be taking on the very experienced former world title challenger Ashley Theophane (40) from London. Theophane has a very impressive record of 48 wins 1 drew and 8 defeats and has won multiple titles which include a British title at super lightweight, IBO International, and two GBC world titles at Welterweight. Theophane has also contested for the WBC World Super Lightweight title being stopped by Adrian Broner in the 8th round.
Eggington who lost a very close contest against Ted Cheeseman for his IBO continental title in September of this year also has also an impressive record with 28 wins in 35 fights. Eggington has also won Midlands, WBC International Silver, British, Commonwealth, European at Welterweight, and an IBO continental at super Welterweight. The fight is scheduled to be over 10 or 12 rounds and is not for a title at the moment but this could change. This will be a great contest for Eggington to showcase his talents against a tough opponent Live and free on Channel 5 on this Hennessy Sports show.
The undercard has some cracking fighters and fights on with two Birmingham lads challenging for the welterweight Midlands title with the hard-hitting Kaisee Benjamin taking on ‘The 0-Taker' Ben Fields. Also on the show, there will be hot prospect Michael Hennessy who will be looking to make a statement after losing his last fight, and ‘The One and Only' Idris Vergo whose opponent is yet to be named.
Dexter's Thought’s
It will be great to see Sam Eggington showcasing his talents on terrestrial TV with the potential of a bigger audience than Sky sports. I really thought Sam was hard done by in his last fight as yes it was close but I did not think Cheeseman did enough to take his title. So this change to channel five for this fight may open some new doors for ‘The Savage’ as Cheeseman does not seem keen for a rematch. His opponent maybe 40 but he could potentially be a banana skin for Eggington as he has been in with some very tough opponents and I think he will bring the best out of ‘The Savage’.
Also on the card is a cracking fight between Benjamin and Fields, these are two of my favorite fighters coming out of Brum and this will be a tough one to call. I train at the same gym as Ben Fields and class him as a friend but will say this, it will be a very tough ask for him as he steps up a weight against a very talented fighter. If you know Ben's story you will know he has the will and determination to get this job done and I can’t wait for this fight.
