TOPromotions Big Prizes Fighter Tournament

Tommy Owens Promotions kicks off the new year with a blockbuster Prize Fighter Welterweight Tournament with a pot of £20,000 up for grabs. The Event will be held at Plant Ice Solihull on Saturday 18th February with 8 fighters being for the prize money and bragging rights. None of the fighters have had more than 4 fights with 3 of them only having their 2nd contests, with all eight of them putting unbeaten records on the line.

The 8 fighters who have been named in the contest are Jagdeep Purewal, Connor Meanwell, Taylor Greig, Brett Egan, Don Itutu, Tommy Loach, Danny Costello, and Craig Brewin. The winner of the Tournament will receive £8,000 with the runner-up receiving £4,000 and the rest receiving £2,000.

The Column will give you the lowdown on each Fighter in the contest.

We start off with Jagdeep Purewal, the 22-year-old from Selly Oak Birmingham who has been a busy Fighter making his debut in February of 2022 beating tough journeyman Liam Richards on points. Purewal has had 4 contests this year and won them all giving him an unbeaten record of four without defeat.

Next on the list is Connor Meanwell, known as the ‘Pitbull’ Meanwell is from Newark Nottingham. He has only fought once as a pro making his debut at Middleweight in December 2022 beating Joe Hardy on points.

Another fighter who has only fought once is 25-year-old Taylor Greig, the Dixon foot tall also had his first fight at Middleweight beating a trick opponent Berman Sanchez on points.

Next up we have hard-working Brett Egan, the 28-year-old from Birmingham who made his debut against veteran Journeyman Paul Cummings in June of 2022 beating him on points. Egan then went on and won two more contests with one finishing in a 2nd round stoppage giving him an unbeaten record of three without defeat.

From Derby, we have the ‘Dream chaser’ Don Itutu who has won both of his professional contests. The 29-year-old made his debut in October of 2021 beating Dale Arrowsmith on points and stopping his other opponent in the second round.

Tommy Loach has had four fights and has won three but drew his last contest against MJ Hall in March 2018. Loach made his debut in October of 2016 beating Ali Wyatt on points.

22-year-old Danny Costello will be having his second fight in this tournament, Costello from Nuneaton made his debut in September of 2022 beating Peter Aleksandrov on points.

Last but no means least we have the 3 without defeat Craig Brewin, the 28-year-old from Cambridge made his debut against Dylan Drapper on points in August 2021

Also on the card, there will be Bradley Goldsmith, the 24-year-old Middleweight who will be looking to take his record to seven without defeat.

Also which is not on the poster there will be a highly anticipated debut of Birmingham’s Commonwealth games contender Niall Farrell. The Second City gym and team G.B boxer has finally turned to the professional ranks and I’m sure will bring a big following to his first pro contest.

Dexter’s Thoughts

What a way to start the new year for Tommy Owens Promotions, giving 8 prospects the chance to win some good prize money and bragging rights in the welterweight division in the Midlands. There are some very talented fighters but also some unknowns which makes it a very interesting contest. I have to say Purewal, Egan, and Brewin look like the favorites but have not really been tested. I think this tournament will sort the men from the boys and whoever wins will get some nice prize money and a push up the ranks with 3 more wins under their belt.

I am also really excited about Niall Farrell’s debut, I have interviewed him a few times over the years and have always looked forward to seeing his pro debut. He is the first of the Farrell dynasty as there are two younger brothers coming through the amateur ranks, he has champion written all over him and looks forward to following his career.

The Birmingham Boxing Column will be at the show to give a full report.
