Whelan Goes Two Without Defeat

Twenty-six-year-old Ryan Whelan took his professional record to two without defeat on the Tommy Owens Promotions show called “Give No Quarter’. The Birmingham Boxer was taking on thirty-five-year-old Lithuanian Genadij Krajevskij in a four-rounder in a light Heavyweight contest. Whelan weighed in twelve stone six with Krajevskij coming in twelve stone two with Ryan Churchill reffing.

Whelan used his sharp jab to control the round with everything coming off it, Whelan landed some heavy combinations winning the round with ease. Whelan continued to control the fight in the second with a nice stiff jab going body and head at will. Krajevskij started to let his hands go but Whelan won the round. Whelan again controlled the third round with a great jab, he landed some nice combinations forcing Krajevskij back going to the body and head well. Krajevskij started having a go back in the final round which spurred Whelan on who continued to use his jab well banging in great combinations winning the round and the fight.

Judge Chris Dean scored it 39 to 37 Whelan, I had it 40 to 36 Whelan.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Great performance by Whelan tonight using a great jab to control the fight and a very game opponent. This was his second contest and I have to say I was very impressed with how he controlled the ring and the way he worked his way into landing good combinations to the head and body. Whelan has great potential and could win titles in the future, but he can learn his craft and get some ‘W’ in the win column before he has to concentrate on that. The Birmingham Boxing Column looks forward to seeing Whelan fight again soon,
