Melvin Complete Fiest Six Rounder

Stourbridge hot prospect Jake Melvin completed his first six-round contest against tough Bulgarian southpaw Georgi Velichkov. He was fighting on the Black Country Boxing Promotions show which was being held at the Eastside Rooms Birmingham (17.06.23). The twenty 0ne-year-old was having the fourth contest of his career after winning his first three. In his last contest, Melvin had to get up off the canvas after being knocked down in the second round but rose to his feet and won the fight. The fight was in tis welterweight division with Melvin weighing in ten stone seven and Velichkov came in ten stone seven with Jamie Kirkpatrick reffing.

Melvin let his hands go from the first bell landing evil shots to Velichkov head and body and landing eye-catching combinations to win the round. Controlled aggression by Melvin in the second round with great combinations to Velichkov head and body picking his shots well, Melvin was in full control against a tough opponent who had already gone into survival mode. Big shots by Melvin in the third as he really started to put the hurt on Velichkov who was earning his purse tonight as covered up.

Everything flowed in the fourth round off a nice sharp jab from Melvin who was just getting off nice sharp combinations at will with Velichkov just covering up. You had to give Velichkov credit for still being in there with the number of shots he had taken in this fight as it continued in the fifth with Melvin dishing out more punishment who was now just going through the gears. Melvin kept up his high-tempo boxing to the final bell letting combination after combination go with Velichkov just looking to see the final bell.

Ref Jamie Kirkpatrick scored it 60 to 54 I had it the same.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Great performance from a very talent young fighter in Jake Melvin, Velichkov wasn’t given any chance to get any meaningful shots off as Melvin let his high-tempo talented boxing overwhelm Velichkov. Melvin worked Velichkov head and body well with hurtful shots and you can see he has learned his craft well as he let every combination in the book go on his opponent. He is of good stock with his dad ex-professional boxer Malcolm Melvin in his corner and is looking to me that he will surpass his dad and not just contest for a British title but has the potential to win one. At twenty-one time is on his side and he and his team can take their time to turn this talented hot prospect into a champion. He is definitely a boxer to watch out for and I see titles in his future.
