Powar Goes to Six Without Defeat

Writer's picture: Dexter HastingsDexter Hastings

Wolverhampton’s Gully Powar took his professional record to six without defeat notching up another victory at the Hangar Event Venue Wolverhampton (15.9.23). The twenty-one-year-old with the backing of a big home support took on Nicaraguan Cristian Narvaez (28) in a four-round super-lightweight contest. Powar weighed in nine stone seven with Narvaez coming in nine stone thirteen with Pete McCormick reffing.

Powar came out with intent and smashed shots into Narvaez body and head at will, Narvaez was on his toes from the first bell after feeling the first few shots and was just trying to stay away. The beat down continued in the second with Powar landing a low blow and being warned by the ref, when the action continued Powar went back to banging in big combinations going to the body with some evil shots. Narvaez showed some defiance as he called Powar on and let his hands go. Powar soon had him retreating landing big shots to the body and head winning the round. The fourth and final round was a one-sided contest with landing every shot in the book on a very tough opponent who took it all and managed to see the round out.

Judge Kevin Parker scored it 40 to 36 Powar I had it the same.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Another impressive performance from Powar who landed every shot in his arsenal in just a four-round contest. His opponent didn’t give much back after feeling the first few shots but he showed his toughness last time onslaught of Powar and completing the four rounds. I really do think Powar needs to be stepped up in his level of opponent and maybe after two more six or eight-rounders he will be ready for titles. Powar is definitely a boxer to watch and I can see titles in his future.
