Professional boxer Ashley Pettigrew

Updated: May 3, 2023

Ashley Pettigrew is a twenty-four-year-old professional boxer from Doxey Stafford. The Orthodox fighter has had three professional contests so far and has won them all stopping his first opponent in the second round in June of 2022. All of his contests have been over four three-minute rounds and Pettigrew will be looking to fight for titles at Super Welterweight or potently Welterweight. Pettigrew also had eighteen unlicensed contests before turning pro winning sixteen of them, he also won a title on the unlicensed circuit but informed me he was never really bothered about it as he only did it to get the tougher fights.

Pettigrew trains at different two gyms with him training at Stafford Fight Factory where he has been since he took up the noble art at the age of seventeen, but since turning pro, he now attends the BCB gym in Wednesbury. At Fight Factory in Stafford, he is trained by Andy Baily and when he trains at BCB he has Paull Mann Matt Sturgess and Ben Wikes to give him instructions.

Pettigrew who has been boxing for eight years but has always had an interest in boxing from a young age took up the noble art because a new gym opened in Stafford (Stafford fight factory). To start off he started training for there for fitness and fun and then realized he was pretty good at it and he told me “Things came naturally to me so I had my first fight and never looked back since”.

My first question to the unbeaten fighter was who is your favorite fighter and why. He told me “Mike Tyson, watching his highlight reels is what got me interested in boxing when I was younger, In his prime he was an animal”.

We then talked about what his hardest fight was. He recalled “In December of 2019 I fought George Bance in the final of a tournament. It was a very tough 3 rounds for me being hurt several times but I showed true heart, grit, and determination and was still there at the final bell fighting back with all I had. I answered a few questions in my own head that night and although I was gutted I lost was still proud of myself”.

Dexter’s Thoughts

I had the privilege of watching his last fight last week and was very impressed with his performance. He showed a lovely jab that he kept his opponent at the end of it controlling the fight. He had a very good variety of combinations and showed that when he dropped his opponent in the second round with a cracking body shot. Pettigrew looks raw but I can see a lot of potential in this young fighter and think he needs a few more fights against journeymen before stepping up to area title dreams. He is only twenty-four so time is on his side and if he continues learning the noble art at the rate he is going I can see him challenging for titles in the near future. I look forward to seeing him fight very soon.
