Blaze Wins First Pro Title

MTK promotions and TOPromotions held there first show of the new year at the Holiday Inn Coventry road Birmingham. The dinner show had a boxing card of 3 fights with two four rounder’s and a 8 rounder for a British challenge belt. The British Challenge belt was contested by Tony Blaze Jones and Ibrar Riyaz, with Jones being the victor on points.

Unfortunately the column was not at this show due to travel issues but caught up with Jones the following day. I asked Tony how he felt after winning his first professional title and how he thought the fight went? He told me “I felt really relaxed and strong, I only had 4 weeks notice from the Christmas break where I was eating crap foods and only running and being in the gym 1 or 2 times a week. Since Christmas I have had to get my ass into 8 round shape, something I’ve never done so far in all my pro career”. The blaze continued he said “I boxed very well landing every shot in the book nearly over the 8 rounds. It was a very good experience being pass 4 rounds, at times in the 6th and 7th I was feeling tired for little parts of the rounds. I haven’t got the experience to know when to take a rest in them rounds but now I have learned a lot from last night I can put that right for next time. My opponent came to try to knock me out in the later rounds, I could feel that and I just stuck to my game plan and showed everyone that I’m not just a fighter I can box on the back foot if and when I need to, I was very happy with my first 8 rounder”.

My final question for Jones was what is next for team Blaze? Tony told me “I would love the Charlie Williams Fight next if anyone could make that possible, but we will have to see what’s next for team blaze. It’s been a long time coming, 13 years since my first amateur fight and now I’m 10 unbeaten as a professional, I’m just buzzing I won some sort of belt”.

Also on the show Kieron Conway won in the forth round by technical count out against Andrej Cepur, Mitch Redmond also won on points against Remigijus Ziausys.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Chuffed to bits that Tony won his first professional title, I had him on Welcome to Fightden a few weeks ago and watched him spar at Eastside where he really impressed me. Tony is looking to get it on with current Midlands area champ Charlie Williams which would be a great fight for him. Williams is a very talented boxer and this would be a very big step up even if their records are similar. Tony is very ambitious and is a talented boxer which is a great mix to for him to move up the ranks and winning more titles. The Birmingham. Boxing Column look forward to what the Blaze does next.
