Pro Boxer Adam Harper
Adam Harper is a 29 year old boxer from Tewkesbury Gloucestershire, Known as the Hurricane he fights out of a Orthodox stance in the Super Welterweight division. Harper had a decent amateur career winning 30 fights out of 41 and claiming 2 western counties titles. As a professional Adam has gasps 9 fights winning 8 of them, he has also won the Midlands area title at welterweight against the very talented Ryan Kelly. Harper’s only defeat came in his last flight when he challenged for the Vacant Commonwealth Super Welterweight title against Michael Zerafa losing on points.
Harper’s told me he used to train at Tewkesbury ABC but when he was at Uni he trained at Fullwood ABC. Harper has boxed for 10 years and was inspired to take up the noble art to loses weight. He is currently living in Sydney Australia and is being trained by his brother Mike and ex army coach Jamie Adams and is looking to fight for the WBA Oceania title.
I asked Adam who is his fighter and why? He told me “Gatti has to be up there because of his style”. I then went on to ask him what is the best fight he has saw and why? He said “Froch v Groves 1 was the best live fight I have saw but Gatti v Ward 1 is the fight I would watch over and over again. My final question for Gaper was What has been your hardest fight to date? He informed me “it has to be the against Michael Zerafa for the commonwealth title, he was a classy kid and could hit a bit”.
Dexter’s Thoughts
I was at the show when Harper won the super Welterweight title against highly talented Ryan Kelly. He used great tactics to walk Kelly down and work him on the inside and not giving Kelly the chance to boxes his fight. This performance really did impress me and he move on to challenge for the vacant commonwealth title, this didn’t go his way but you have to take your chances when they come. He is now looking to fight for the Super Welterweight WBA Oceanic title with his brother Mike and new trainer Jamie Adams, the Birmingham Boxing Column wishes him good luck in his title fight in Australia.
