Midlands Area BBBoC Present Ball With Chalice To Mark Achievement

BCB’s Rachel Ball has been recognised by the BBBoC Midlands Area Council after becoming the Area’s first female World Champion.

Ball received an English Diamond Cut Chalice to mark her achievement.

In November, Ball defeated Argentinean Jorgelina Guanini to claim the World Boxing Council Interim World Female Super Bantam Title live on Sky Sports to achieve her status as the first female world champion from the Midlands.

“It’s a wonderful achievement,” explained Midlands Area Chairman, Martin Florey. “As we are unable to hold our annual Awards Dinner due to Lockdown Restrictions, we wanted to mark Rachel’s achievement and wish her all the very best for her upcoming World Boxing Association Bantamweight Title fight with Shannon Courtney.”

Ball takes on Courtney on 10th April live on Sky Sports in a re-match of their 2020 encounter.

‘The Ginger Boxer’ defeated the ‘Baby Faced Assassin’ on that occasion and is confident that history will repeat itself once again.

"I have 100 percent improved since the last fight. I've learned so much and I'm doing different things in my training.

"I'm growing so much as a fighter. This year I learned how to properly box and I'm looking like a boxer.

"It'll be a much harder fight for her. They're going to be careful.

"There are things I can take from the Shannon fight and my last fight to work on to be ready for this one.

"It's about working on my weaknesses and everything else will slot into place."

Dexter's Thoughts

Massive congratulations to Rachel Ball on being given this prestigious award, 'The Ginger boxer' or as the column-likes to call her 'The Ginger Matador' has put Female boxing on the map and is an inspiration to females in and out of the sport. I have followed Rachels's career from her first fight and knew then that she would be a force in female boxing and was very happy when she became the first female to be entered into the BBcolumn Hall of Fame. Ball has also won the Birmingham Boxing Columns Fighter of the Year for 2020 after winning the WBC interim super bantamweight title. Ball will now fight Shannon Courtenay for the WBA bantamweight title on the 10th of April. This will be their second encounter with Ball coming out victorious on points in the first, Courtenay is looking to avenge that defeat but I honestly believe Ball will win again with ease. I thought Rachel made the first fight hard for herself by getting into a war with Courtenay, as it was plain to see she was technically a much better boxer than Shannon. But whatever way 'The Ginger Matador' decides to fight I can only see a Ball win.
